January 1, 2009 The crew is out of service for the season. Links for current vacancy announcements are posted below: -- The Vacancy Announcment for Seasonal Hotshot is now open with the first cut off date being 1/27/2009. Please read the How To Apply instructions at the website carefully. The process has become a bit more complicated! Hotshot Wildland Firefighter #NPS-FIRE-2009-003 -- The Vacancy Announcement for the Arrowhead Operations Captain postition has been extended with a current closing date of 01/15/09. When tragedies occur, they are the first to respond with assistance to the victims and their families. -------------------- -------------------- The National Park Service established its Interagency Hotshot Crew program in May of 1981, the Arrowhead Hotshot crew being one of the three crews formed at that time. These three crews were the first non-Forest Service Hotshot crews established. They were also the first Hotshot Crews to be funded by the Department of the Interior. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks has been the home unit for the Arrowhead Hotshots since the crew's inception. The crew's work center is located in the Grant Grove district of Kings Canyon National Park, California.

It took a few months, but we finally have a new version of the CREW PHOTOS page. We are still missing a few years, so if you have one, PLEASE send it to us! Happy New Year! Maura ---------- We say goodbye now to Pedro Gutierrez. ---------- Our beloved CandyMan is ---------- Two more of our hotshots have advanced to Senior Firefighter: Roberto (Berto) Garcia and Jason (Chief) Hoerner.
Both these sawyers deserve it and we know they will carry on the tradition of hard work (and play) that is Arrowhead! ----------

Pedro is returning to his roots at Ash Mountain and Crew 91 where he is the new Assistant Captain. He'll be putting his Leadership Skills to good use as well as passing along his many years of wildfire experience. 
moving on.Moving to the south end of the park to Ash Mountain, where he has accepted the position of (something like) Prescribed Fire Specialist (Assistant). The Sexy Beast will be assisting Ben Jacobs, another Arrowhead allumni. Will's one of the best when it comes to fighting fire with fire and we know he'll still be part of the Arrowhead team. 
The crew has broken the all time over time record of 1073 hours that was set in 2000. The current record is 1085.
